Island time

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

During the summers, I always spend a lot of time on Toronto Island, where I grew up, but this summer I’ve been lucky to have much of that time involving performing. Over the past few years, the Island has become a more and more popular spot for unique shows in festivals.

This past Sunday, kith&kin, the vocal trio I sing in with my sister Martha and our mother Kathleen McDonnell, performed as part of the 5th Poor Pilgrim Island Show, which is a festival focusing on fringe folk and experimental music that travels around to different sites all over the Island. We performed at St. Andrew-by-the-Lake church (by candle courtesy of Isla Craig) towards the end of the evening. Mechanical Forest Sound captured some audio from the performance, and you can hear it here. You should also take a look at more photos and recordings from the festival here, it was such an amazing day!

I also have another Island musical engagement coming up this Friday July 13th. I’ll be playing at the Island Cafe, where I curate and host their Summer Concert Series. I’m so excited to play because it will be the return show for my guitarist and best bud Matt Bailey, who has been away for 2 months! The show starts at 7pm, and the Cafe has great food! More info here!

Here’s a nice photo of me playing last month at the Summerworks Festival launch party, by Omer Yukseker. Check out more of his stuff here!
